“Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you” (Luke 10:5-6).

It is interesting to note that peace is a state of mind that we are to assume in anticipation of the advent of the Messiah. Isn’t the Messiah supposed to bring peace? In the above scripture, it is clear that peace is understood as a quality that we carry, one that we are to give. Notice how often you try to resolve issues in your mind with the intention of attaining peace. As I have pointed out before, trying to resolve issues to attain peace is a little like trying to be the first car in line during rush hour traffic. You’ll never get there. You can, however, experience peace while in the very belly of rush hour traffic. You could listen to beautiful music, or an inspirational talk, or better yet, you could begin sending out blessings to every individual in that sea of cars around you. Peace is certainly a quality missing in this situation. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone in rush hour traffic brought it along with them?

The principle is this: Start giving the thing you want to experience. Haven’t we been attempting to draw peace from our circumstances? What if we began bringing peace to our circumstances? What if we started thinking of peace, not as a thing we draw from resolving issues, but as a power we bring into unresolved issues for the purpose of resolving them? Wouldn’t this put us in a much more proactive position?

Jesus looked at a raging storm and said, “Peace, be still,” and the storm ceased. He gave from his consciousness of peace and circumstances conformed.

This is a great lesson for us all. Right where you are, find your center and begin to speak words of peace to your tumultuous circumstances. It is in your own inner environment of peace that your messiah will first appear. You are waiting for your messiah? I have some good news: Your messiah is waiting for you.
