The Nearness of God (click to listen)

I’m writing this message from the beach of Coronado, near San Diego. Beth and I are sitting at a table surrounded by overly friendly pigeons, listening to the surf and feeling the cool, damp sea breeze blow by.

The sea is often used as a metaphor for God. Its endless horizon, its power, beauty, life and rhythm inspire thoughts and feelings that transcend the norm. Walking down the beach the rolling waves reach out and touch you, as if to remind you that from any place you are you could launch into the deep.

This is true of God as well. Wherever you are, you stand on the shore of the Infinite. Like waves washing the beach, God’s presence constantly washes over and through your life in ways that may go unnoticed until you stop and costo viagra czechia listen, observe and feel the sustaining energy and power that move in and through you always. You stand at the same door the mystics of all time have stood. You own this door and you are entitled to push it open and enter. The Infinite is your birthright, yours by nature and by the very fact of your existence. Whether you walk in the shallows or swim in the deeps, God, your source, sustains you and lays open all the mysteries for you to know.

The human family has created a layer of consciousness that generally does not include a conscious interaction with its Source. We are busy running here and there, getting this thing or that, honing one skill or another, immersing ourselves in entertainment or business or events of every kind. It’s like we’re walking the beach focused on what the sea may have washed up. It’s good to look up at the vast horizon, to contemplate the giver of the gifts sprinkled across the beach. We need no reason to do so. The mind-expanding experience is reason enough.

Look up often. Let the Infinite into your stream of thought. Open your mind to the beauty of an inner scene too vast to encompass in thought. Touch that which lifts you beyond thought to the level of inspiration that generates new thought, new emotions and new ideas of who you are and of what your life can be.
