A commonly considered question concerns the subject of purpose, especially as it relates to God’s purpose for each of us. Because of our focus on our own interests and experience, we may not stop to think that there have been approximately 108 billion people who have lived and are living now on this planet. This means God would have had to come up with 108 billion reasons for creating more people. And of all those billions, how many may have lived out their entire life feeling they failed to find or fulfill their purpose? Our purpose is to be an open channel for the unlimited expression of life, love, power and intelligence that is God. Further, we are to do this in the manner and direction of our own choosing. In other words, you and I have been given all the resources needed to express a quality of life that reflects our innermost desire for greater freedom.
In the same way the sun does not dictate the kinds of vegetables we plant in our garden, so God does not dictate the kind or quality of life we live. And, just as the sun provides its life-giving energy to the choice of vegetables we plant, so God supplies us with a steady flow of enthusiasm, understanding, strength and orderly opportunity to unfold the life we envision from our heart.
At the moment of human conception, two single cells join together to build a phenomenally complex body. Through its incubation period, we embrace this idea in faith, as if it is already a fully mature condition. We do not bring all its required elements together for we know this is God’s part to do. We are endowed with a limitless imagination and all the faculties and energy needed to bring our dreams into fruition. We would do well to stop asking God why we are here and start listening to God urge us to believe in our own ability for unlimited expression and the greater freedom this implies.
